Context: The 2023 BRICS Games opening ceremony was held in Durban, South Africa.

• The official opening ceremony took place at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban, South Africa.
• Young athletes aged between 19 and 21 from BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) will compete in five sporting codes: swimming, badminton, table tennis, tennis, and beach volleyball.

About BRICS Games

• BRICS Games, an event involving five BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) coming together to participate in various sports.
• The first BRICS tournament was held in Guangzhou, China, in 2017.
• The BRICS Games in 2021 were organized by India
• The 2022 BRICS Games were organized by China but were held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• The 2023 BRICS Games organized by South Africa.
• In 2024, Russia will host the BRICS Games in Kazan from June 20 to June 23.
