Context - The Union government has initiated ‘Donate-a-Pension’ programme for the welfare of Unorganised Sector Workers.

 

Details

  • The Minister of State for Labour and Employment has announced to extend the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan (PM-SYM) pension scheme for unorganised workers.
  • The Union Government has initiated the Donate-a-Pension Scheme, under which people/employers can donate for their immediate support staff such as domestic workers, drivers, helpers, caregivers, nurses, in their household or establishment or any other eligible unorganized workers in the age group of 18-40 years, to provide them old age protection through PM-SYM pension scheme.
  • The donor can pay a minimum of one year's contribution.
    • The donation amount for a year amounts to a minimum of Rs 660/ and a maximum up to Rs 2400/- depending on the age of the beneficiary.
    • The people/employers can donate online or by visiting the nearest Common Service Centre.

 

About Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan Yojna

  • Itis a Union government scheme for ensuring old age protection and social security of Unorganised Workers.
    • The Ministry of Labour and Employment is the implementing authority.
  • Unorganised Workers are primarily engaged as rickshaw pullers, street vendors, mid-day meal workers, head loaders, brick kiln workers, cobblers, rag pickers, domestic workers, washermen, home-based workers, agricultural workers, construction workers, beedi workers, handloom workers, leather workers, audio-visual workers or in similar other occupations.
    • There are an estimated 42 crore unorganised workers in the country.
  • It is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme;
    • A subscriber would receive a minimum assured pension of Rs 3000/- per month after attaining the age of 60 years.
    • If the subscriber dies, the spouse of the beneficiary shall be entitled to receive 50% of the pension as a family pension.
    • A family pension is applicable only to spouses.
  • Eligibility Criteria
    • Should be an unorganised worker.
    • Age between 18 and 40 years.
    • Monthly Income Rs 15000 or below.
    • Should not be an Income taxpayer.
    • Must have an Aadhar card.
    • Must have a Savings Bank Account/Jan Dhan account.
