Hyderabad-based The Lighthouse Project earned seats at UN’s 1Million for 1 Billion initiative

Context: The Lighthouse Project by three school students, is building global bonds against religious, cultural and racial discrimination, earning them seats at a UN summit

1Million for 1 Billion initiative (1M1B)

  • It is a non-profit organisation with a mission to activate one million young leaders who will impact one billion people for a sustainable planet.
  • It is aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is a United Nations accredited non-profit organisation with consultative status to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications.
  • Learning and understanding each other’s cultures will help children to be more acceptable and appreciative of one another.

The Lighthouse Project

  • Through TLP, children connect and discuss various issues.
  • It aims to start a chain reaction that will make each one think before they want to discriminate against a fellow teenager.
  • It focus on reducing cultural, religious and regional discrimination by helping the youth connect across communities and countries.
