Context: The Government of India has been implementing a programme based National Achievement Survey (NAS).

 

Details

  • The Government of India has been implementing a rolling programme of sample based National Achievement Survey (NAS) aimed at classes III, V, VIII and X with a cycle period of three years.
  • About 34 lakh students of 1.18 lakh schools from both rural and urban areas participated in NAS 2021.

 

About National Achievement Survey (NAS)

  • The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has been periodically conducting National Achievement Surveys (NAS) since 2001.
  • The aim and objective of NAS is to evaluate children's progress and learning competencies as an indicator of the health of the education system, so as to take appropriate steps for remedial actions at different levels.
  • The survey cover:
    • Government Schools (Central Government and State Government).
    • Government Aided Schools.
    • Private Unaided Schools.
  • Subjects covered under the survey;
    • Language, Mathematics & EVS for class 3 & 5.
    • Mathematics, Science & Social Science for class 8.
    • Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and English for class 10.

 

Steps taken by the Government for improving the standard of education across the country

  • Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan provides funding to eligible State higher educational institutions.
  • Declaration of Educational Institutions as institutions of Eminence, to Provide world Class education to Indian Students within the Country.
  • Creation of Higher Education Financing Agency, for high quality infrastructure in Premier educational institutions.
  • National Institution Ranking Framework for ranking of our higher education institutions.
  • GIAN Initiative to invite distinguished academicians, entrepreneurs, scientists, experts from premier institutions from across the world to teach in higher educational institutions in India.
  • SWAYAM Prabha Provide HD educational Channels through DTH on 24X7 basis.
  • Sodhganga to develop national repository of universities in India, digital Study material for higher education.
  • Samagra Shiksha Scheme to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education at all levels of School education.
    • It is an overarching programme for the school education sector extending from pre-school to class XII and aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education at all levels of school education.
  • National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat) has been launched under Samagra Shiksha for ensuring that every child in the country necessarily attains foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) by the end of Grade 3, and e-content for the same has been released in DIKSHA platform.
  • Integrated In-service teacher training programme - NISHTHA 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 has been introduced for different stages of school education for Teachers, Head Teachers/Principals and other stakeholders in Educational Management.
  • The Structured Assessment for Analysing Learning levels (SAFAL) framework has been developed by CBSE for Competency-based assessment for grades 3, 5 and 8 focusing on testing for core concepts, application-based questions and higher-order thinking skills.
