• Recently the Union Ministry of Education announced that the last date for submission of applications for the National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the year 2022-23 is 31st October 2022.
• NMMSS is a 100% centrally sponsored scheme.
• Under the Scheme, scholarships are awarded to deserving students belonging to economically weaker sections of society, to avoid their dropping out of class VIII and encourage them to continue their education at the secondary stage.
  • Every year one lakh fresh scholarships are awarded to selected class lX students studying in State Government, Government-aided and local body schools.
  • The amount of the scholarship is Rs. 12000/- per annum.
• Students whose parental income from all sources is less than Rs. 3, 50,000/- per annum are eligible for the scholarships.
  • The students must have a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in the Class VII examination (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST students).
