Context
- The government is in the process of creating unique identification (ID) of farmers who have availed agricultural schemes.
About
- The unique identifier of the farmer will link the farmer profile with all the agricultural schemes, which have been availed by the farmer.
- The government is in the process of preparing a Farmers Database across the country.
- Only farmers included in the database will be able to avail the benefits.
Significance
- With the help of Unique Identity Card, farmers will be able to avail the benefits of various schemes of Central and State Government without any hassle.
- Farmers no longer need any intermediaries to avail the benefits of the government scheme.
- The scheme of making identity cards has a provision of verification of farmers by e-Know Your Farmers (e-KYF).
- With this, there will be no need to submit documents frequently in different departments and offices to avail benefits under different schemes.
- It will also provide access to field-based and customised advisories as well as ease the process of accessing the damage to crops due to extreme weather condition.
