  • Global leaders committed to donating $2.54 billion for eradicating polio at the World Health Summit.

World Health Summit

  • The World Health Summit is the unique international strategic forum for global health.
  • Held annually in Berlin, it brings together stakeholders from politics, science, the private sector, and civil society from around the world to set the agenda for a healthier future by inspiring innovative solutions for better health and well-being for all.
  • The World Health Summit was founded in 2009. It is traditionally held under the patronage of the German Chancellor, the French President, the President of the European Commission, and the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Results

  • M8 Alliance Declaration- The M8 Alliance is a growing network and currently consists of 30 members in 20 countries. It is a growing network of excellent universities, research institutions, and medical branches of national academies of science across 130 countries.

Highlight of 2022 World health Summit

  • Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation pledged $1.2 billion to the largest international public health initiative, Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI).

 

GPEI

The Global Polio Eradication Initiative is an initiative created in 1988, just after the World Health Assembly resolved to eradicate the disease poliomyelitis. Led by the World Health Organization, it is the largest international public health initiative in history. The GPEI is led by national governments with six core partners - Rotary International, the World Health Organization (WHO), the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
