- On the occasion of World Standards Day on 14th October, the Bureau of Indian Standards has organized an event “Manak Mahotsav” based on the theme of ‘Standards for Sustainable Development Goals - A Shared Vision for a Better World’ at Mumbai.
- On the occasion, the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs said that with the mantra of quality and sustainability, we can create brand value for Indian products across the world.
- He highlighted that “For 'Brand India' to emerge across the globe, we need a change in mindset towards quality standards and become more conscious towards their importance.”
- World Standards Day is a collaborative initiative of;
- The International organization for Standardization (ISO).
- The International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
- The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
- World Standards Day was first celebrated in 1946 in London.
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)
- It is the National Standards Body under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution.
- It is a statutory body established under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
- BIS has more than 500 scientific officers working as Certification Officers.
- BIS was formerly known as the Indian Standards Institution (ISI).
- ISI was set up in 1946.
- The ISI was registered under the Societies Registration Act, of 1860.
- Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) headquarters are in New Delhi, with regional offices in Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Delhi.
