  • SPECIES IN NEWS: STELLARIA, AMPHIBIOUS MOUSE

    Stellaria mcclintockiae:
    A newly discovered species of the genus Stellaria, found in Kerala and West Bengal. This small herb, unique in its petal and seed characteristics, is considered critically endangered by the IUCN. It represents South India's first Stellaria species and grows at high altitudes in the Nelliyampathy Hills.

    Amphibious Mouse:

    Discovered in Peru's Amazon, the amphibious mouse lives in swampy aguajales and is adapted to aquatic environments. It has partially webbed feet and feeds on aquatic insects. Its habitat is threatened by deforestation, underscoring the importance of ecosystem conservation.
